In this comprehensive literature review of recent research (2024), Rhim and Kim highlight the connection between vitamin D deficiency and the recurrence of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), and the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in reducing the likelihood of relapses

Key findings:

  • Vitamin D deficiency is identified as a risk factor for BPPV recurrence, alongside age, female sex, and other conditions like hypertension and diabetes.

  • Vitamin D supplementation in patients with low levels significantly decreased the number of relapsing patients and relapses per patient.

Further randomised controlled studies with larger populations are needed to validate these promising results.
